This top quality meat comes from Pat's Organic Farm in Roma, on the Western Downs.
Pat's Organics is a family business that has produced certified organic meat since 1992.
They graze on good quality pastures including native blue and mitchell grasses, Their feed is supplemented with organic grain and minerals where necessary. There is always good clean water available. Shelter is provided by scattered and thick groves of native trees. The animals are surrounded with a large bio-diversity of plants and animals (Kangaroos, Wallabies, Emus and other native fauna)
Antibiotics are not administered by injection nor added to the animal feed. For animal welfare reasons, a sick or injured animal occasionally requires treatment with antibiotics. This animal is identified and no longer used for certified organic meat production.
Artificial Chemicals are not used to dip, drench, backline or treat the animals in any way. The pastures are grown without the use of artificial chemical herbicides, pesticides or fertilisers.
The Pat's Organics team holds the belief that healthy animals have their own natural defences against parasites. They aim to keep the animals environment and nutrition well balanced and reduce their susceptibility to parasites and disease. With a good farming system, parasites are kept in balance by their natural predators.
Pat's animals are not injected with slow release hormone capsules nor are growth promotants added to the feed. They are allowed to grow at normal rates under natural free range conditions.
No genetically engineered animals are used. Nor are any genetically engineered feed or animal treatments used.
Humane treatment of animals is very important to the farm team. Animals are always handled very carefully and quietly. The natural needs of the animals are always catered for.
As no artificial chemicals are used, no toxic residue is added to the surrounding environment. Native plants and animals are encouraged and considered an important part of the overall farming system. The farming system is both productive and sustainable.
All meat is processed without contamination by artificial chemicals.
Pat's organic farms are certified by the BFA (Organic Producer No. 462) in line with AQIS standards. Residue tests on produce are carried out at regular intervals. Annual farm inspections are part of an ongoing monitoring process conducted by the BFA.
